During the winter months, we all need that little extra TLC. Flu, colds and sickness bugs are rife and with those illnesses come aches and pains. However, you needn’t have to suffer. Whether you’re battling a winter bug or you’re just feeling a little tired and rundown, aromatherapy and essential oils can help. Found within some of my scented candles, and other types of skincare and body-care products, here's some tips and ideas of power products to sort you out!

Healing rosemary
Rosemary is a great choice for those suffering from aches and pains as a result of arthritis. We all know that arthritic conditions can worsen during the cold, winter months, but rosemary may offer the perfect remedy.

Pain-relieving black pepper

This one may come as a bit of a surprise, but the pure essential oil of black pepper can also do wonders for aches and pains. In fact, I’d go so far in saying it’s one of the best oils for muscular aches and pains. This makes it suitable for gym-goers that have worked a little too hard and office workers with muscular aches and pains. It’s also great for exercise pain prevention and stiffness reduction.

Soothing vetiver

This lesser known aromatherapy scent is one of my favourites for soothing headaches. Used since ancient times, this power scent brings relief to general aches and pains and tackles ailments ranging from rheumatism to deep muscular pain.

Stimulating eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is one of those must-have essential oils for winter. Not only is it great for easing coughs and colds, it’s also perfect for all those seasonal joint and muscle aches.

Calming lavender

Of course, my list wouldn’t be complete without lavender. As one of the best all-rounders, lavender can help combat a variety of ailments. It’s anti-inflammatory and full of analgesic properties, helping soothe aching muscles and improving swelling.As you’ll see, these fragrances are widely available in lots of products but you can also create your own essential oil blend for similar results. Blend 4-6 drops of your favourite muscle soothing oil with a carrier oil such as jojoba or sweet almond. You can then apply this oil directly to the part of your body that is sore or pop a few drops of the blend into your bath.
